Project description:
P. berghei is known to cause malaria in rodents but not in humans. However, P. berghei infects human hepatocytes and thus is expected to trigger immune responses in humans. A transgenic P. berghei expressing falciparum CS protein (PbPfCS@UIS4) is expected to induce PfCS-specific immunity. This project will evaluate, through Controlled Human Malaria Infection (CHMI), whether cross-species protection can be achieved by immunizing humans with PbPfCS@UIS4 through mosquito delivery.
