This article, published in Malaria Journal, examined whether blood source affects the success of mosquito feeding experiments. According to the study results reported, no difference was found in Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasite densities between capillary and venous blood in asymptomatic subjects for both gametocyte and trophozoite stages. This finding suggests that the blood source should have no effect on direct membrane feeding assays in mosquito feeding experiments.
